I setup this page because a number of readers asked how they could help out. If you enjoy reading this blog and would like to contribute in some way, here are some ways you might be able to do so. If you have any other ideas, please feel to leave a comment below, or email me at ryochiji at gmail.
While I think this goes without saying, some people seem to think that I feel entitled to support. So let me be clear: nobody is obligated to give me anything. If you can’t or don’t want to give, don’t. It’s that simple.
Subscriptions
If you can spare a few bucks a month, even small contributions can add up over time, and I’ll receive recurring incentives to keep going. To subscribe, please click on a plan below that sounds reasonable to you. Subscriptions are handled by PayPal, and you’ll automatically be charged periodically for as long as the subscription is active, but you can cancel at any time (for example, if I get assimilated by the borg and end up a cubicle slave…).
One time donation
If you would rather make a one-time donation, please click the button below and enter any amount you’d like to contribute.

Materiel Donations
If you think I might waste monetary contributions on booze and women, and would rather donate physical objects, please get in touch with me by leaving a comment below, or by emailing ryochiji AT gmail. Here are some things I could use (as of December 12th, 2010):
- Sock liner
- Propane heater
- Car charger for DeWalt 18v batteries
- DeWalt 18v batteries
- 12V DeWalt battery (NiCad, not the newer Li-Ion)
- Solar panels (another 100W would be nice)
- 6v or 12v deep-cycle batteries
- pure sine-wave inverter
- Small wind turbine
- Gift certificates for Lowe’s, Costco, or Trader Joe’s
FREE ways you can contribute
Not all ways to contribute require money. In general, increasing readership can help me in many ways further down the road. Here are some things you can do to help:
- Become a fan on Facebook
- Share individual posts on Facebook, Twitter, StumbleUpon, etc
- Help me get an article/guest post/book/lecture deal
- Post comments, and say something nice

Ryo
I got a pair of almost new Sorrel Caribou boots you can have. Size 9. You can stand in the snow all day with these.
Let me know.

Hang in there!
Have you thought about gardening next year? That should help to alleviate your food bill at least. Now is the time to start planning for it, too!
Soil improvement first (google sheet mulching for a simpel technique)
Then intensive gardening (like square foot) and companion planting.
Good luck, and I’ll spread the word.
Never even thought about doing that for my project. Guess I can give you a link on mine.
Boots are on the way… Should be at your friend’s place on Mon.
Post a pic of you standing in the snow with them, should have alot after the next couple of days.
Can you take donations from paypal?
Yes, click on the “Donate” button above on this page (under “One Time Donation”), and the link will take you to PayPal which handles all my donations.
Your friend Mike R has been talking about you for the last hour to help us forget about our cubicle forest here in Chico. Looks like your living the dream of Christopher in “Into the Wild” and instead of a journal and pen you have a blog. If your ever in Chico for supplies hit me up and I’ll buy you a beer.
Ryo – I’ve been following your blog quietly and in the shadows for quite some time now. It occured to me that this website might be of interest – if you’ve not investigated it already: http://www.kickstarter.com
A great way to fund projects of all kinds with donations from the masses.
All the best to you – I know your area fairly well as we own property not terribly far from you. Or at least as I surmise from your intentionally (and understandably!) vague descriptions of the place. Perhaps I’ll even give you a hand on a construction project at some time in the future! Take care and stay warm…
Ryo, I follow the tiny house blog, which is how I discovered your blog. I dream of building a tiny, towable, off-the-grid home, and am attempting to generate enough funds to do so.
One of the ways that I earn a little money might be useful to you, as well. I’ve noticed that the photography on your blog is very beautiful. You might consider opening a Zazzle.com store, in which you can sell prints, greeting cards, and a variety of other products, featuring your photos.
There are absolutely no costs or fees involved. All you have to do is design the items that you would like to sell, post them, and perhaps do some advertising on your blog, Facebook, and/or Twitter. When an item sells, you receive a royalty. It’s quite simple, and I’ve had some success with it.
I hope this helps with your finances!
Thanks for the suggestion. I did make a calendar featuring photos I took, but that didn’t sell too well. I might try some other products like you suggested though.
Can you e mail me with a way to contact you? I work at lowes part time in Texas. I would like to help you with a card for when you finish the 30 days and head back in to town. Thanks again for your info, Chris. Ckharg@comcast.net
No updates no response (bad).
Was there something I was supposed to respond to?
