Hey Ry, Congrats on moving forward man, the cabin looks really fantastic!
a word of advice…if those are regular pre-cut fence boards, be sure to seal them on all sides with a sealing stain or a clear coat (especially the backs). I used those boards on my cabin but I only sealed the side that was visible. They warped and separated within 6 months. After a year they were so badly warped the critters were getting into them and I had to replace them all with HardiPanel!
look closely and you’ll see what I mean…
freshly installed, nice tight fit- http://urbanrancher.files.wordpress.com/2009/11/back-wood-wall.jpg
after a year, warped with big gaps- http://urbanrancher.files.wordpress.com/2012/02/img_44351.jpg
Looking good. Fence panels lol.
Good to see you post again, looking forward to reading more, keep letting us know how you get on

Cedar should last a very long time in your area if it’s painted and sealed
Have you been living there all winter? How well did it work in the cold?
Looking like you are making progress. The panels look like a good choice.
Funny, I finally put up siding this summer, too, after living in my “tar paper shack” for almost 8 years. Unfortunately I discovered that metal siding and metal roofing severely limit cell phone reception, but I’ll have to say I’m thrilled with the aesthetic improvement in spite of that. Enjoy!
Ive been following this for a year, its cool to see it (and you/Japan work) and I’m vary impressed on your work. A rock star you are! I’ve I’m looking to make my own and I’m closer and closer to build my own.
Have you thought of making a cistern and gutter system?
Glad to see you posting here again! Siding looks good!
Nice progress! Hopefully the warm weather will help this year.
Congrats! Btw, what the ____ is on top of your car? A nuclear warhead? lol.
I’m glad to read your posts again. Looks very nice. Don’t forget to post some more pics when finished.
I see you got a new water storage tank as well?
Cool Siding
I used to have one many years ago, exactly when I was still teens.
It’s located in my home town, and living a bit far makes me missing it sometimes.
